Trigger Point Therapy

Myo - means muscle

Fascia (pronounced fah sha) - thick fibrous connective tissue that encases, attaches, stabilizes and separates muscle and internal organs.

Myofascial trigger point (TrP) - is a hyperirritable spot, usually within a taut band of a skeletal muscle or in the muscle's fascis, that is painful on compression, stretch, overload or contraction of the tissue which usually responds with a referred pain that is perceived distant from the spot (Simons et al. 1999)

Myofascial pain syndromes (MPS) - a regional muscle pain dysfunction caused by a MTPT within a taut band, local tenderness, referral pain, restricted range of motion (ROM), and autonomic phenomena.
